Teaching Material for Elementary School Science Students

Post by texaslonghorn » June 8th, 2013, 5:20 pm

I am looking to coach elementary school students for the Texas Math Science Coaches Association Science tournaments. I would appreciate ideas on resources such as books, websites, etc. that can help me as well as students.

To provide some information on TMSCA Elementary School Science Tests … the tests have 50 multiple choice questions with a 40 min time limit. The questions span difference branches of science without being broken down in specific subjects like biology or chemistry. No math is usually required to answer questions.

Here is page from a previous test …

I would appreciate any help or suggestions with resources.

There are a few miscellaneous practice tests and resources on the Minnesota Division A website, http://moodle.moundsviewschools.org/cou ... php?id=180 (login as a guest).

North Carolina has a more comprehensive set of resources on each of its Division A events at http://www.sciencenc.com/events.php#a (click on the links for each Division A event).

The resources at both of these sites are event-specific (i.e. not geared towards the more general grab-bag tests you describe in your post), but I think they would still be useful.

Thanks much for the helpful reply, Luo. The material in the suggested websites is good. I have one other question. Are there any books that stand out in terms of providing an introduction to or overview of science topics commonly covered in Elementary School curriculum?

Hello,

Does anyone have access to the NSTA teaching materials for elementary school science projects?
Sorry for bumping.
I don't comprehend why educators haven't stirred everywhere throughout the nation to challenge for the training they are getting.

Sorry, I don't. However, I would strongly recommend that you visit the soinc.org and download some of the resources available there. They are very informative and make for great science activities for children.
