Missouri 2020

Post by dxu46 »

Welcome to another season of Missouri Science Olympiad!

Updates
There was a change in administration from the 2019 to 2020 seasons. The previous state director stepped down and a new state director (previously the director for Region 3) took up the position.
Region 4 seems to have undergone a big change, as neither the regional dates or tournament director are listed on either website.

General Information
There are two websites, but it seems like the state director is using both:
https://statescioly.org/mo
https://moscioly.org

Invitationals:
None confirmed

Regional Competitions:
Region 1 (NW Missouri) - February 22nd, 2020 (B) and February 15th, 2020 (C)
Region 2 (NE Missouri) - February 29th, 2020 (B/C)
Region 3 (Kansas City Area) - February 8th, 2020 (B/C)
Region 4 (West Central Missouri) - TBD, 2020 (B/C)
Region 5 (Central Missouri) - February 22nd, 2020 (B/C)
Region 6 (St. Louis Area) - March 7th, 2020 (B) and February 22nd, 2020 (C)
Region 7 (SW Missouri) - TBD, 2020 (B/C)
Region 8 (SE Missouri) - February 8th, 2020 (B/C)

State Competition: April 2nd, 2019

Any predictions for states? My take:

Division B
1. Ladue: well-established program, generally OP, will beat Pembroke MS for sure 8-)
2. Wydown/Clayton: strong program that beat Pembroke last year, they can definitely get 2nd again
3. Pembroke Hill: knowing them, their impending devastation by Ladue in Div C will trickle down into Div B :P

Division C
1. Ladue: we have lots of good people this year, due to lots of skilled Div B grads and no scibowl conflict
2. Clayton: their incoming Div B grads already have experience beating Pembroke, could they do it again? :o
3. Pembroke Hill: they will lose to Ladue by so much that they fall behind Clayton 8-)

Sorry in advance Pembroke ;)

Region VII tournament is February 22nd. I'm impressed, we got it more than six weeks before the event.

Speaking of regionals, they're happening right now. Will edit this post with the top 5 teams after awards :-)

EDIT:

Since some Region IV teams took refuge here, we're sending 6 teams to state. However, I only caught the top 5 so that's what you get. Full scores should be out... soon.

Division B:
6th - St. Elizabeth Ann Seton (216)
5th - Hume Middle School (189)
4th - Greenwood Lab Middle School (177)
3rd - St. Agnes Middle School (177)
2nd - Immaculate Conception Middle School (157)
1st - Central High School (137)

DIV C:
6th - Kickapoo High School (192)
5th - Parkview High School (155)
4th - Greenwood Lab High School (130)
3rd - Springfield Catholic High School (128)
2nd - Ozark High School (126)
1st - Central High School (76)

EDIT 2:
Results have been posted, so this post now has scores from the event. Looking forward to seeing some of you at state! Again. Some more.
