Re: Gravity Vehicle C
rules this year seem to reduce the amount of luck, since it takes two runs out of three rather than one out of two. unsurprised that time score isn't a thing now, since time score doesn't matter that much in gravity anyways compared to other vehicle events.

Re: Gravity Vehicle C
With time no longer a factor, and only 1pt/cm I think sub 5pt scores will be a lot more common this year. I think it'll be interesting to see how common sub 2pt scores are as well.

Re: Gravity Vehicle C
Not that many, sub 5 would only be top 1-3 MIT, top 2-4 nats.CPScienceDude wrote: ↑September 9th, 2020, 8:16 pm With time no longer a factor, and only 1pt/cm I think sub 5pt scores will be a lot more common this year. I think it'll be interesting to see how common sub 2pt scores are as well.
For context, around 5th or 6th at MIT was 3cm (score of 6, assuming they had two runs which were 3cm off). The likelihood of them getting two runs that accurately is slim.

Re: Gravity Vehicle C
I also feel that accurately completing three runs could be tough. Do you take your time setting up and get two quality runs in, or do you "rush" to get the three runs? A little bit of strategy here in creating a vehicle/ramp that is incredibly fast to set up and reset if you want three good runs.

It also helps that teams now get 10 minutes, rather than 8 minutes before.JonB wrote: ↑September 10th, 2020, 12:39 pm I also feel that accurately completing three runs could be tough. Re: Gravity Vehicle C
Very true. We will see how it plays out. Well, maybe- since most competitions are going the mini route, we won't see this event run often (at least for the competitions we will be at).sciolyperson1 wrote: ↑September 10th, 2020, 5:22 pmIt also helps that teams now get 10 minutes, rather than 8 minutes before.JonB wrote: ↑September 10th, 2020, 12:39 pm I also feel that accurately completing three runs could be tough. Re: Gravity Vehicle C
It isn't crossed out on the Mini SO list, which says that it could be possible (with a note that it is dependent on choices the ES makes), but the event logistics manual states "For mini SO tournaments, discontinue this event as participants will not have adequate resources to appropriately or safely run Gravity Vehicle in a home setting."MadCow2357 wrote: ↑October 5th, 2020, 5:31 pm Is gravity vehicle happening for mini SO competitions?
So, it could happen or not. If the ES is dedicated, and the tournament will allow, it probably will happen for that particular tournament. Otherwise, it probably won't.
