Mousetrap vehicle kits

Post by JuliaT »

I've found the following kits online for Mousetrap Vehicle. Do any of you have any experience with any of them?
1. Ward's - the officially licensed kit - $145.71 (including shipping and sales tax) for enough materials to make 2 mousetrap vehicles. The description says that it's "not intended to be an 'out of the box solution' for competition." Have any of you built one of these? Do they adhere to the 2021 rules?

2. Unphazed - $90.00 (including shipping), for one kit. The vehicle goes really slow but that might be fine this year since time will not be measured, if I understand correctly. It uses an unusual braking system.

3. Paper Roller Coaster Company - $45.95 (including shipping) for one kit, or $80.95 for two kits. The vehicle uses ball bearings, a locking nut braking system, and appears to adhere to the 2021 rules.

Does anybody know of any other kits that fit the 2021 rules or can be adapted easily to fit the rules? Which of the above kits have you tried and can recommend?

Look into building one on your own. Vehicle kits are typically very overpriced, just like the ones you listed above. I would recommend none of them.

The learning experience is part of Science Olympiad - with a kit, you lose out on that.

Another source is
https://www.docfizzix.com/products/vehi ... p-powered/

They have several kits, both basic and advanced. Most all require some modifications for which they have accessory parts available ( such as wing nut brake axle)

We've used the 2 basic kits, with the students doing the modifications. Sometimes mixing up parts from the 2 basic kits.
