Post by qoasy »

Would anyone mind helping a fellow Olympian with getting Jmol onto a Mac?

I'm a windows user, but from what I understand, Jmol is cross-platform. You need to install the Java Development Kit (https://www.oracle.com/java/technologie ... loads.html), then download Jmol (use the zip: http://jmol.sourceforge.net/download/). Unzip it and you can delete everything except for the file jmol.jar, which you can run immediately. If anyone is a mac user let us know if you need to do anything else.

Yeah, I've been a longtime Mac user, and when I installed it, I downloaded the files from the second link (the sourceforge one), unzipped the folder, and just ran the jmol.jar file. I don't recall needing to install the Java Development Kit, that or I had already had it from a previous installment/program/whatever. CookiePie1 is right tho: as long as you can download zip files, you should be able to run it because it isn't .exe or .dmg.
