What do you call Science Olympiad?

I'm amused that the official shorthand, per the mobile ap, is SO. I'm ashamed that it took me until now to notice that, though...

I depends who I talk to mostly. I think people on the team and typing I do scioly and I just say science olympiad to people who I think may be less familiar to the club. I also call it scio to people from Syosset because syo scio .

One interesting one I heard that I'm surprised hasn't been posted yet is calling it "the olympiad" or something like that (I guess like the olympic science or the lympiad ones). I can't remember where I've heard it, but I think I have once or twice.

In my experience this seems to be mostly those who became involved as adults, and frequently those not very involved. I see it a lot in news stories and said by people tangentially engaged (e.g. sponsor representatives).

I almost always call it SciO when talking to people familiar with Science Olympiad, but I use the full title for people who might not know what it is.

I occasionally call it not "the olympiad" but "oly", because we normally talk about scioly and scibowl, but talking to other science people and just trying to differentiate between the two, the easiest way is to reduce the names to "oly" and "bowl"

Question: why are Scioly people known as "Sciolyers" and not "Sciolians"?
