Re: Favorite Event?

Post by foreverphysics »

I have a friend who competed in Experimental Design after twenty four hours of preparation. He tied with the team that didn't show up--dead last. I'm sorry, but that's just a little sad, especially considering he had two partners, one of which is extremely intelligent and went to Nats this year. Well, he did have washers, pens, wire, and little chunks of foam thrown at him throughout the competition...but still.
Favorite event--Mission (Im)Possible. For those of you who like to add it on...

Physics is difficult for 99% of the world's population because they don't understand it. The other 1% know too much.

Experimental is really hard if you haven't really had any experience. It's easy to get second tiered if you make a simple error; our Experimental Team when I was in 9th grade got 1st at Nats, but earlier, placed dead last at Regionals. It turned out that one of the people had accidentally formatted it wrong (I think he put switched the title and something else, or something like that) and ended up getting ranked behind everyone else. I did ED after a day's notice at Invitationals, and my partners didn't have any practice either. We placed dead last as well (they actually said we got first, but they had mixed us up with the other team from our school and one of the kids wouldn't give his medal up....but that's another). So without any time to prepare, it can be very easy to perform dreadfully in Experiemental, even it's just one person who was inexperienced.

Meteorology is hands down my favorite event. The two years I've done it it has been my schools best place at state. I spend at least an hour on it every week and in scioly season I study it every day. My next favorite event is division B Mission Possible witch I competed in at scioly summer camp and we came in 1st. Can't wait till competition season begins.

Anatomy & Physiology or Invasive Species
WIDI is also pretty fun to practice but I can't respect it as an event

A tie between Forensics and Fossils. Forensics because I love creating scenarios (though I rather despise the corny competition scenarios) and it's just fun. Fossils because fossils are simply amazing.

Mission and Forensics
Code Busters too if you count WI-only events. I genuinely thought Mission Possible was called Mission Impossible for 3/4 of my freshman year

Astronomy is by far my favorite. I like the mathy stuff and that everyone else thinks it's hard and when you do it you look pro
