I really need help on formating for disease detectives. Should I do columns? What font?Size of font?New line for new definition or subject?

Your first mistake is using google docs imo...
Microsoft Word: 3-4 columns, but not using the columns feature, arrange text boxes in columns, Arial Narrow size 4 (decrease as needed)

I add text on google docs and then use LibreOffice Writer (or MS Word for all you Microsoft nerds) to format it before printing it. It seems to work for me; your results may vary.

I like Google Docs, you can format into whatever amount of columns with practically 0 space between them. However, if you're really picky about space saving and still want it to be shared, Google Slides is probably a good bet.

Margins: Depends on printer, I do 0.2 to be safe, Font: Any (Arial Narrow to save space) with size 6, Columns: Usually 3 with about 0.1 between, Images: Set as wrap with 0 margin

imo you have more freedom with your cheat sheet design using Google Slides/MS PowerPoint over Google Docs/MS Word, then exporting the slides as a PDF, then printing the PDF. You can put all your text into boxes and move them around however you wish (same with pictures), which is definitely more flexible than any amount of columns/margins could do on a word processing software. You could do the same withAdobe CS software such as InDesign or Illustrator if you have access to it. Personally, I did my Designer Genes and Cell Bio cheat sheets in Google Slides, and I did final formatting of my cheat sheets for Dynamic Planet for nationals in Adobe InDesign (because I was a spoiled newspaper designer who had access to it all the time).

honestly for these types of events you don't need a lot of info, i end up memorizing a lot.

i just go with a cool .25 margins w/ vertical format. no columns, no special boxes, just lines and highlights man.

it's worked pretty well for me in DD, and it's my 2nd year doing the event

as i said before and something ill always preach: you shouldn't rely on your notes
