Best overall states performances?

Postby 48is2n » March 24th, 2019, 10:51 am

So yesterday Acton-Boxborough got 39 points at Massachusetts Div C states, averaging a placing of 1.86 over all 21 scored events, which is something I've never seen before; are there any teams that have done better at their state competitions? or any other competitions that have been so incredibly lopsided?

The closest I've found is Iolani in Hawaii with 35 points over 17 events averaging 2.06 or Treasure Valley in Idaho with an average of 1.57 but with only three teams actually competing in every event.

I think Mounds View in Minnesota Div. C also tends to score extremely well- they got 41 at their state competition this year, and I'm not sure where to find the information but it seems likely that they might have scored lower than that in the past.

Oh my gosh wow, last year they got 27, that's absolutely insane.

Yeah that's really good. Placement at States always depends on the schools competing there and the quality of the tests, but even then, that's an extremely impressive score.

We once got 1st in every event at a Invitational...

Of course, we were the only Div. B team attending, despite several teams being registered... And then there's the matter of the kid in charge of Scrambler setting up the course and then going and committing suicide, so all of the events started late.

Invitationals will have all sorts of variety, hence why this is for performances at state tournaments. ;)

Plenty of teams do this in Wisconsin, this year Madison West made it with 55, even though they had 18th in an event. In the past, both Madison West and Menomonie have regularly gotten scores in the 40s. This year, the third place team got 69 points.

I suppose this has to be mentioned:

The Division C Treasure Valley Homeschool team won the 2019 Idaho state tournament with a score of 28 (averaging 1.22). All 23 events were run. However, there also were only 7 teams actually competing, and most events had around 5 competing teams.

Not as impressive as some, but Barrington HS here in Rhode Island won with only 54 points. Their worst event was Circuit Lab in 8th place.

Not an invitational but we won LISO with 45 points, dropped 3 events though (8 13 and 34)

34 was weird since that's a no show but we got the test back :thonk:

Though it isn't the lowest score at a state tournament, Solon HS scored 52 in 2013 in Ohio, which is possibly the most competitive state tournament in the nation
