They were way easier this year. I was disappointed.
The ones I remember are:
epicenter
renewable resource
coprolite
pendulum
epidemiology
rocket

We got 21.

Hey, LASA, we (Harriton) got 21 also. The words definitely were pretty easy - Mira Loma got 6th place with 20 words, and Solon (2nd) got 23, and the gold medal team from Centerville got 24 (!!!); all of them but the last word. We felt pretty good about it, and must have only finished slightly before you (they wouldn't tell us how much time we had left when we called time).

We skipped:

Subduction Zone
Equinox
Coprolite
and one other that my teammate didn't remember.

Some others I remember off the top of my head:

Ballistics
Food Web
Carrying Capacity
Nonpoint Source
Energy Pyramid (I think?)

The others escape me now - it's so hard to remember them when you're moving through with high intensity! We were happy with third; slightly disappointed not to be able to defend the title, but getting 24/25 is totally incredible, so congrats Solon.

We had issues a couple of times where the event supervisor didn't acknowledge the word as said (when my teammate guessed "bottle rocket" from my drawing, she didn't give that to us and then said that "bottlerocket" was one word...), and several other times where she said we had to say the words in the term in order after having gotten one of the words already, which I don't believe is supposed to be necessary. That slowed us down a good 15 seconds or so, but oh well.

Congrats to all!

You should have gotten Rocket off of Bottle Rocket. That seems unfair...

Some words that I remember:

Deforestation
Femur
Electromagnetism
Deoxyribonucleic Acid

Are they having this event next year? Or is it being scrapped and replaced by Sumo Bots?

Also, does anyone remember any of the 3 harder words? Coprolite was one of them. The other 22 were easy, but we Mira Loma members made mistakes on nonpoint source and ballistics and had to pass them to get 20 words instead of 22. :(

I really hope PT isn't getting scrapped. I think Picture This is possibly the most fun event to practice at times and entertaining to watch.

Picture This originally seemed like a crazy and horrible event, but once we started getting into it I realized that it actually does reward hard work and does force you to learn things (though... I can't say I feel like my incredible science dictionary skills will help me very much later in life...). I think people are getting too good at it though; it's time for it to go. I think a picture this-like event could/should become a staple of Olympiad... Science Word was really great (though I didn't think the old rules were perfect), or maybe even a charades-like version, and those three could rotate through.

Absolutely agree! I coached this event and our trio of girls (ages 13, 13, and 15 -- we're a young, brand new C team) worked hard and got gold at Regional and State and they had a great time and learned A LOT. So did I! From January on, they worked about 40 hours a month on this crazy event. We were hoping for at least one more year.

Well, our only hope is that the event comes back before these young ladies graduate because they want to compete just one more time!

I was thinking that I could put together a petition that Pic This fans could sign to keep Pic This for another year. If anyone has any ideas on how to do this, could you let me know?

Uh you could start a petition but the events have been decided.

Don't know what your petition would really accomplish aside from letting you know what other students really like this event.

They haven't posted the final list yet. The one on the national site is a tentative list only. It could still change.
