Anyways, do you know what systems the judges used to time? did they use stopwatches? That's probably a poor idea because the 1st and 6 were probably off by very very little.
They where a standard sports stopwatch

Mine was 16cm off to the side
forgot to ask for time though

Wait, it became skewed after transporting it? Wow, did you transport it by plane? did the FAA open it up and screw it up so nothing was dangerous? :?

It was driven up by one of the families who drove. it is really easy to get a large skew with just a small change so thats what happened

i'd probably be too lazy to test my buggy in illinois if we went to nats...

I didn't know that transporting a buggy could skew it up.... oh well I guess you have to learn to test everything when you get there. Even though making a straight line is a complete hassle.

So ive just been studying up on this event...is it like the Mousetrap of B div? Ya, a vulgar comparison - but there are similar issues that you would face in the process of constructing and testing a buggy.

Yes, and no.
Most wheeled events are very similar to each other. Except sumobots and the like but that's not really a wheeled event. There are similar issues, like skid, speed, accuracy, etc.
But the objectives are different, but if you're good at one of the wheeled events I do not see great difficulty in transitioning to the next wheeled event. many of the basics of the design are the same for both events.
