Back then you were allowed to load to 25 kg, which I think also played a role in the high scores.

We're testing at 1:10, Harriton High School. Hope to see people there!

With appropriate timing, a picture of last year's C division winner has gone up in the image gallery. Beautiful - I'm still as impressed as I was when I saw it last year.

Of course, at this point, it's far too late for someone to try to emulate it (having tried making a variation of it three times earlier this season and never getting out of the 1200-1400 range with it... it's amazing that they pulled it off). Shame Kapaun won't be at nationals, but I think their states score will hold up as the best score anywhere this season.

More likely is that they made an order for specialty balsa/bass wood to meet the needs of their design. Each peace is expensive to buy but one could get the exact density of the wood they require meaning get extremely light/ low dense stuff and then get the denser peaces for the other parts of the bridge. They could have spent a good amount of money to get the lightest sticks of wood that make their design work.
