Our season is done so I uploaded pics of our team's device. It won the Ohio State competition.
I also included a video to show how it works.

It was programmed to run at 60.1 seconds and that must have been close enough.
I saw several machines that look almost like it.

If you have a Vex System, 4 motors, a few of the extensions for the wires, and the programming kit, it is really easy to make.
The box took longer to build and paint than the entire device. The vex will run on 4 batteries so no issues.
The program was done in easy C from Vex.
If you have something else it will work also but easy C was easy to work with (hence the name)
If you have everything else, the program is available as a 7 days trial. (thats what we used).

I have received an email clarification now clearly stating the best score time.

ORIGINAL MESSAGE:
In a 2nd tiebreaker, is a score of 60.1 better than a score of 60.99?
It has been defined that actions inside 60.99 seconds shall score. This
strongly implies that 60.99 is the most perfect score. <snip>
Please clearly define what is considered a perfect score, 60.00 or 60.99. Thanks very much.

ANSWER:
"For tie breaking purposes, 60.00 is considered perfect, so 60.10 is better than 60.99. This is the way it will be scored at Nationals."

I am very pleased this is clearly written now. And yes, the scoring sheet reflects this perfectly.
(Now, if they'd just adjust the scoring decimals out a few places on the spreadsheet and use audio or video scoring)

As far as I can tell, the excelsheet will show 60.99 for col K (7. Time of device operation (sec))

our team got DQ'd at regionals, and last place at state
hopefully we do good at nationals

for nationals does anyone know how they're gonna time it to make it as fair as possible?
cuz i'm betting half the teams will have electronics and motors

Even with computerized timing it is going to be hard to eliminate some chance or human element as the competitor still needs to drop the ball on the count even if the count triggers the computer. We could get it down to 60.00 and 60.10 ten out of ten times by programming to 59.9 but that was only good for second.

If they use the microphone method, the error from the judges is eliminated. The computer "speaks" the 3,2,1, go tones and the team members drop their own golf balls to start the device. If you don't do well with this method, it's all on you.
I would recommend checking out the video made by the guy from Mentor and insuring you are ready for that type of timing system.

Hopefully the actual timing method will be announced so everyone can prepare.

Does anyone know if the predictions came to fruition and how many perfect scores were there at Nationals? And how did they time the devices?
