Anyone has any guesses on what changes will come about?

they might change the bottle size, 2L bottles are more fun, and you can do more with them

that means higher rockets, more parachutes lost

Its worth it. Just put a name and phone number on the parachute and hope somebody calls you saying that you found it. And it doesn't necessarily mean higher rockets, you can launch a 1 L almost as high as a 2 L if you build it right.

Yeah, I've found that smaller bottles can often go just as high as larger ones. They're more aerodynamic - long and narrow - and considerably lighter. Although with the weight of an egg being fixed, it may lessen that effect a bit.

Really? But you have essentially twice the air power, since volume is twice. I got used to the height of 1 liter rockets last year. Then, as I watched the Div B prep for Nationals, where 2L Bottle Rockets was a fun event, I was awed when I saw how high the same design on the 2L went, in comparison.

I think this is what would happen with 2L

Most parachutes get stuck on the trees.

Okay, I've seen well built 1L do better than poorly built 2L, thats what I meant to say. So yes, most 2L do go higher, which makes them more fun.

And I've had enough parachutes go over trees to find it worthwhile to put a name and phone number on them.

And the way times were this year its almost better to make it so we have longer times, it would make the event a little more interesting.

Wouldn't it be fair to say that if you add the same proportion of water, the 2L rockets will have twice the force?

No, F=ma, so force depends on the mass of the rocket too. You can get the same height out of a 6L rocket as you can out of a 2L rocket. Yes, 1L rockets usually don't go as high as a 2L, but if you build one right it can go as high, as long as you are not building it to a set of rules.

And the other advantages of 2L is that they are cheaper to buy and you have more space for the egg capsule.

hmm, that makes sense. only that the 2L isn't twice as heavy as 1L. think of the surface area of the bottles

true there are more space for the egg capsule. but from last year, I didn't feel the egg capsule was a real concern

A 2L alone isn't twice as heavy, but the fins are usually larger, making them heavier, and so are cones and such.

And the extra space is really just more room for a parachute, it allows you to make the egg capsule a little bigger to accommodate different designs.

Anybody have any advice on string to use for the parachute? I tried fishing wire but I'm not a fan. Thread maybe?
