I have, at regionals. It was just a picture of a Neanderthal skeleton and it asked us to ID it. There was even a picture of a human skeleton beside it in case anyone was having trouble.lllazar wrote: Has anyone actually seen any questions related to Homo neanderthalensis on a test?

Re: Fossils B/C
The only mammals I've seen on tests are the Neanderthal, and a weird question about Equus on the state test. There was also an Archaeopteryx question at states.quizbowl13 wrote:god, and since theres nothing REMOTELY close to it, i see why.

There was also a question were we had to use a protractor at states. I can't remember the exact question, but has anyone else seen something similar to this?

I've seen a similar question on two separate events.amerikestrel wrote:I have, at regionals. It was just a picture of a Neanderthal skeleton and it asked us to ID it. And as for mammals, I've gotten the typical "Identify mammoth/mastodon and equus/hyracotherium based on the tooth". Nothing on Smilodon though.

Re: Fossils B/C
I have a question that may seem odd, but when should one start studying for their events? Some of my events, like Ornithology seem to rotate and I wasn't sure to begin studying until about August, when they usually announce events because a member of my team spent his whole summer preparing for RoboCross, only to find that this event was not being offered this year.

Re: Fossils B/C
I don't know what events I'm going to even be in next year, so I'm not going to start until my team assigns events, but generally the events don't change from the tenative list they put up around now (http://soinc.org/sites/default/files/up ... -30-10.pdf). Of course, since it's tenative, it's always "subject to change", but it almost never does. So, most likely, you could start studying now.

Alpha, does your school randomly assign events to people, or do they get to choose. From what you say it sounds like you don't have a choice.
