I don't think there is a cycle for topics, I think they choose at the beginning of the year based on whats going on, because it was Mars for a few years, but it has changed every year for the past two.

Well, i still think they should bring it back. I really enjoyed those years when Mars was the topic, and i think its much more interesting then the Generic "Human Impact" topic.
