At States last year, in the very humid gym my wing posts weakened and broke when I tried to attach it to my plane. I don't entirely remember it, but I believe my CA wouldn't cure, and, flying on broken posts, I got I believe a 76 second flight out of a 120 second plane. Considering first place was 130 seconds, this was a huge disappointment. Does anyone know what could have helped?

But basically, no one uses saran wrap. It's a terrible covering that is entirely inappropriate for this event. Way too heavy. The "best" covering is probably 0.9um mylar. Another covering that is even easier to work with and still appropriately light are shopping/produce bags. Look for the flimsiest, lightest ones.

but a setback with the mylar is if it rips, unless you have a backup wing, your done. if you use Japanese tissue, it is just a little heavyer but it can be patched very easily.

Depending on the size of the rip, it is actually possible to repair it.

If it's about the size of a coin or so, its actually really easy to fix. Using saliva, water, or a diluted glue solution, just "paint" over the edges of the rip, and cut out a piece of mylar that'll fit the rip. Then, just lay the mylar over the hole and let it dry. For permanent fixes, diluted glue works the best. But if you are at a competition, I've heard that saliva will do fine temporarily.

If no spare mylar is present, I have used a small patch of japanese tissue paper to cover the rip.

but if your flying during your eight minutes . And it rips your in trouble and wont be able to fix it in time, like James Patterson said "Always expect the unexpected".

Thus the point of bringing two GOOD planes. And spare parts. And repair kit. And practicing lots.
