Isn't plexiglass expensive?

We thought about using pegboard but I am concerned that it will flex too much and isn't rigid enough.

Does anyone think 1/4" ply won't be strong enough?

I used either 1/4 or 3/8 ply for the sides of mine and I never had any structural problems. If you can, use something thicker for the base just so it doesn't flex when you carry it.
