Indiana Science Olympiad

Post by E Edgar »

This thread is for the discussion of Science Olympiad in Indiana. (I'm sure you didn't guess that)

Incidentally, does anyone know how many teams from Indiana will compete at nationals this year? I guess it's probably too early to tell for sure.

Umm, yeah, way too early. Nationals has to compare enrollment numbers after everyone's registered (and paid). Last state to turn in info (no recollection as to which one, at the moment) does so well after February. In the past, we knew well beforehand because there were several States below us (Indiana) that DID get to go, coupled with a lack of "massive enrollment growth" announcements-- not so any longer.

I suppose that many teams will be beginning to meet for the 2010 season.

I suspect that the Indiana state competition will be very competitive this year what with Valpo, Bloomington North, and Bloomington South all putting in strong performances last year. I would think that any of either Munster, Riley, or Carmel have a good shot at placing in the top 3 as well. (I apologize if I've left any team out (I'm doing this by memory))

Actually, I have heard rumor that they aren't going to allow any Indiana teams compete at Nationals this year because they decided that Indiana State competitions are too poorly run so they are just going to throw them out.

I'm sorry, but there is no way that that is true.

In any case, I'm sure most people would agree that the Indiana State competition is usually run very well.

Whats with the schedule for state not being out yet? It was supposed to be out on the 1st 3 days ago.

Yeah, this year things ought to be run better. In my experience IU usually runs a pretty good competition; maybe we won't be thrown out after all.

Still nothing...

To be fair, November is pretty early for competition schedules anyway.

The state schedule is up!

I find it intensely frustrating that half the events are in the first two time slots because that pretty much guarantees massive conflictions.
