Here in Illinois, the 1st place spot at state is undisputed New Trier...and the 2nd spot is pretty much a toss up every year between Stevenson, IMSA and Naperville Central...but either way, there isnt much of a chance for anyone else.
2011 Season Events~

Fossils (Regionals ~1st) (State ~6th)
Towers (Regionals ~1st) (State ~3rd)
Helicopter (Regionals -3rd gahhh) (State ~5th)
Wind Power (Regionals ~1st) (State ~3rd TIERED!)

That kind of competitiveness isn't just in the big states. In Idaho, both the B and C division are dominated by the same schools, and usually, no other schools come close. Sometimes in the B division there is a close call, but not in C. I kind of feel sorry for the other schools I competed against.

2010: 5th in NYS
2011: 4th in NYS
2012: 3rd in NYS
