-The path of the Administrator is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men.

-Nothing\'s gonna get deleted. We\'re gonna be like three little Fonzies here. And what\'s Fonzie like? Come on, what\'s Fonzie like?
-Cool?
-Correctamundo. And that\'s what we\'re gonna be. We\'re gonna be cool. Now, I\'m gonna count to three, and when I count three, you let go of your mouse, and back away from the keyboard. But when you do it, you do it cool. Ready? One... two... three.

Dear Science Olympiad Inc,
What the heck were you guys thinking when you redesigned Junkyard Challenge?

What do you guys think of the new JYC? Personally, I realy dislike it. I may not do this event this year after all.

EDIT: Just to clarify, this is totally a personal opinion. My friend read the rules and loved the changes. I just liked last year's setup better. Sorry if I came off a bit harsh there. :|

After reading the rules here are the observations that I have made.

1) There is a strict item list, whether this was implemented to prevent illegal items from being entered or to provide an even playing field for all teams (new or experienced) I'm not sure but I am certain that many Event Supervisors will like this so they won't have to worry about what defines a "hazardous" material. However, I can also see them getting a bit frustrated if they were forced to count/measure each item in question.
2) There are a lot of different challenges O_O. Most are variations of the same structure but still enough variety to differentiate between teams who are prepared and those are not.

I think it'll be interesting....

I think it sounds a lot like Mystery Architecture, only you have to bring your own materials instead of getting them at the competition. I still prefer last year's rules, even with the whole issue of multiple perfect scores and electronic timers.

They definitely put a lot more thought into the rules this year! Sounds really fun, but unfortunately I can't do it.

It's interesting how they made no maximum score for most challenges... only a relative ranking. That's gonna make this a lot more competitive.
Possible Events:
Microbe Mission, Junkyard Challenge

Probable Events:
Shock Value, Dynamic Planet, Optics, Solar System

If you are using water drip systems, be sure yo poke a tiny hole in the lid so air can displace the water coming out.
