Violins are not impossible to build well.
I built one before I heard that strings are not allowed (am hoping the drafts are wrong though)
the hardest part was getting the sides attached to the bodies.

Trombonist.
quizbowl13 wrote:In tune depends if you make a tuning slide and how well it works.
You wouldn't NEED a tuning slide because the primary slide itself is just one big tuning slide. However you would have to learn some different positions for the notes. And a trombone would be VERY easy to have in tune if the player has perfect pitch. Even if you hit a slightly incorrect position, you can lip it up or down to keep it in tune.
When it comes to the future, there are three kinds of people: those who let it happen, those who make it happen, and those who wonder what happened.

I fail. Most other instruments would need one though.

The draft rules, as aforementioned, don't allow stringed instruments. There may be changes in the official rules, but it's not likely.

Careful, those are the trial rules from past years, they are NOT the draft rules for this years. How different the draft was from the trial depends on what kinds of issues were found in running the event with the trial rules. How different the drafts (which are not widely available, and certainly not on-line) are from finals depends on last minute issues found.

yea, the draft ones I've seen where it says Instrument 1 and Instrument 2 on those FueL say Wind Instrument and Percussion Instrument.
Should be interesting.....although I can see why some string instruments would be relatively easy to build (guitar maybe a harp) a violin like robot build most certainly would not be easy to construct....though perhaps they just in general saw a ton of string instruments last time and want to see something different.

And someone already asked this but just to reiterate because I'm curious....how did you make that bow robot?

Very very carefully :P

Well I took a piece of wood that was the correct length and than sketched the outline of a bow and cut that out using a band-saw and than cleaned it up with sandpaper.

To attach the "hair" (actually lead core fishing line) I drilled a hole through the base which has a bolt with a hook mechanism to hold the "hair". on the tip I drilled two holes which the "hair" was threaded through and than tied off.

I am not sure how well the "hair" will work as I have not finished stringing the instrument.
doctor wrote: and the draft said no store bought rosin is allowed so how did u make that too?
I was counting on the roughness of the Fishing line to work without rosin
