Two lines? Where did you find the music for that?AlphaTauri wrote:Eh, you could probably stretch it out to a minute, while going at a reasonable tempo, but two minutes seems a little long.personasaurus rex wrote: So just to be on the safe side, you might wanna cut down your arranged piece a little. And I'm not sure how slow you're going for Shenandoah but when I timed myself playing those 2 lines on the violin at a reasonable tempo, it was only about half a minute...

Re: Sounds of Music C
The required piece is the two lines on the back of the rules.

Re: Sounds of Music C
make sure you're playing their version of Shenandoah, because that's the only one you're allowed to play, not any other arrangements.

Re: Sounds of Music C
but don't you need to supply your own harmonies and stuff?
not to mention two lines isnt that very much so i'm planning on repeating some of the stuff and doing other things to make it longer

I HIGHLY suggest you don't do that.doctor wrote:but don't you need to supply your own harmonies and stuff?

If you read the rules sheet carefully and thoroughly, you'll find that you can only play/be scored on those two lines and the harmony you compose for those 2 lines.
However, you do need to arrange another piece, melody and harmony, for the judges. THAT'S where your creativity and musicality comes in.
And for brass building people out there, how are you handling the bell? I'm not even going to try working with the pipes, so anything to add on?

Re: Sounds of Music C
I don't think it says this on the rules sheet, so can we bring our own music in for the performance? My instinctive answer is yes because it would be a lot to ask the performers to memorize the music.
So then, can the copy of the music for the performer be different than the official score for the judge? Because our brass player reads music differently than standard.

Yes, you can bring your own music, but I think the judges have to have an exact copy of whatever you're playing.
And what do you mean by "our brass player reads music differently than standard"? As in, the pitches (s)he reads are different than concert pitch?

I don't really know, honestly. He tried explaining it to me but I am an absolute fool in all things band music so I didn't really know what he was talking about.AlphaTauri wrote:Yes, you can bring your own music, but I think the judges have to have an exact copy of whatever you're playing.

I think it was something about he plays B flat trumpet, so he reads everything a note up what it actually is, because his C is actually concert B flat?

Re: Sounds of Music C
Yeah, that's what I meant. The note that a brass player reads is different from the note that comes out of their instrument (which is concert pitch). I think the judges would be fine with the music that he reads...if they know about music (which they should), they would know that brass players don't play exactly the pitches written on the page.personasaurus rex wrote:I don't really know, honestly.
