Just for Division C right?quizbowl wrote:Just realized that there is also a written test.
1) What do you think they will ask, and can we bring a calculator?
2) How will the test be administered at NYS competition C Division?

Re: MagLev Vehicle B/C
Does anyone know if we can have things to balance the car overhanging the walls? They wouldn't be constantly touching, but just their for guidance and to realign it if it tipped. We have nails sticking out the side of our car.

The test is just for division C. Also, I am sure that you can have something sticking out of the side of the car to balance it, just you must be careful in how you place it, or it might end up being counterproductive.

Re: MagLev Vehicle B/C
They say that they used Pitsco in the past, so I am assuming they will use Kelvin. Both are just as similar though.mxz55o wrote:I am a new coach for this trial event and need to order the track. I see from the NY site (http://www.newyorkscioly.org/SOPages/COTResources.html) which the MagLev Science Olympiad description points to says that there are both Kelvin and Pitsco tracks but Pitsco moved their magnets.
Who is the manufacture of the tracks which will be at nationals? Does anybody know so I can make sure I order the right ones.
Thanks.

Re: MagLev Vehicle B/C
Trial events are run on a tournament by tournament basis, so you'd have to check with your specific tournament supervisor to find out. That said, I"m pretty sure we are running it at nationals since it's scheduled to be a 'normal' event in 2012-2013.twototwenty wrote:Has it been confirmed that Maglev will be a trial event again for 2011-2012?

If it is a trial event again for my state, will the rules have been changed; do rules change from year to year for trial events?
