has anyone had to demonstrate artesian well pressure? It seems kind of hard to, but it's possible.

All you really need is an elevated water source, and thats about I'm willing to share of my secrets but you should be able to figure it out.

Since we can't get activated charcoal, instead of food coloring what should we use for contamination (we dont have beads)?

Maybe some sort of powdered drink mix like Kool Aid. Fine-grain salt might work or salt water if you can filter out the salt with a coffee filter or some other form of filter. How about soda?

If you somehow were able to filter the salt out (though it would probably be difficult, seeing as it is also dissolved), it would be hard to show how the water changed, unless you have something to measure salinity with.

Also, how did you manage to filter soda?

In the groundwater.org website (not the SO Rules book, mind you) it specifically warns against the use of dangerous chemicals, and even cites bleach as a specific example... For this reason, I would be very careful about using anything involving chemicals... bleach, phenolptheilene, ammonia, etc. for fear of DQ. Instead, consider a saturated baking soda in water solution, with red cabbage juice (yes, go to the store, buy a red cabbage, take it home and boil it for a couple of hours in water, then throw the cabbage away and harvest the red water) added for coloring. Use this as your "contaminant. Once the well is contaminated, use vinegar to demonstrate a nutralizing agent. Try it and see what happens.
