Re: Can't Judge a Powder B
Well, let's just say once you memorize them using a creative way, they stick with you. I still remember them and last time I did the event was like April
Memorizing the sugars is easy..the structure of each one...
Good luck

There's not that many sugars that you really have to know.Cheesy Pie wrote:Our powder reacted with hcl. I love inorganic chem. And how the heck am I to memorize EVERY sugar?! Just how? Cjap>>>>food science.
You basically have to know glucose, galactose, fructose, sucrose, maltose, dextrose (maybe) and lactose. The structures are all extremely similar; they have the same formula, the only difference between glucose and galactose is that an H and O are switched, and fructose is a pentose sugar as opposed to a hexose. They're really quite easy to memorize. The amino acids, on the other hand, are much more difficult, but you don't really have to memorize too many structures.

Meh, sugars aren't that bad.
There is worse ... hahahahaha MUCH MUCH worse.

No matter what the experiment's result, there will always be someone eager to:(a) misinterpret it(b) fake it, or (c) believe it supports his own pet theory.

Re: Can't Judge a Powder B
They gave me two different pens at regionals and state, bcause if you just had one, you could change/ add observations without their knowledge and get more points, so that my friend is called cheating.EpicFailure wrote:I don't think they would give you two pens. I sent a FAQ a few days ago asking if that's possible and I haven't heard back from the National organizers yet. poparteeb2, can you provide a link as to where you saw that an inference is necessary for the observation to be scored 5 pts? Also, what numeral level of resistance is equivalent to high, low, and medium conductivity?
GUESS WHAT???? I GOTS 1ST PLACE IN ALL MY EVENTS AT CONFERENCE!!!!

They gave me a pen for observations and a pencil for questions. Some competitions give 2 different colored pens. This must be done according to the rules so people can't change their observations.

ya, its for that only.NYLHVSSO wrote:They gave me a pen for observations and a pencil for questions. Some competitions give 2 different colored pens. This must be done according to the rules so people can't change their observations.
Because if you suddenly realize that you missed something while looking at a test question, then you can't just go back and add it to you observation sheet.
Still, if you answer the question correct without providing the observation, you get partial credit.
