Re: Write It Do It B/C

Post by Cheesy Pie »

I want to do this event next year, and I (think that I'm) good at writing directions and building based on directions. But it depends on you and your partner. When I did this for a tryout, my partner drew non-typable images. So, do you know of any ways to train your partner for the event? (Or to practice in general)

Thanks!

The Write It Do It Wiki has some good ideas (and if it doesn't someone should seriously add them). And I'll bet it's been touched on before in the thread. And it sounds like you're good at both, so if your partner can't do writing well, have them be builder.

Thank you z. This will really come in handy when I'm finally on varsity next year!
(P.S. - I hope my partner won't suck! :P )

It's in the wiki page, but I highly recommend doing a few oral widis. They helped my partner and me a ton.

Also have your partner read the rules. And, like it says on the wiki, try switching places to gain perspective.

Yes, get practice as both. You could be spontaneously switched.

My partner and I work really well together. I'm a writer and she's a builder. We tried switching positions, and to make an understatement, WE FAILED. Luckily, it was only a practice.
The problem was that she didn't really know how to describe things, and I had a problem understanding what she was telling me to do, so I ended up putting stuff in the wrong places because she wasn't specific enough, or because I just have a hard time understanding building stuff.

Yeah, the point of switching is just to have the experience of doing the other side so that if you are usually the writer, you will know how much detail is needed or what might be confusing and if you are the builder you will realize how stuff looks from the writer's point of view and maybe realize what the writer means with certain phrasing. It's not to switch it for good or anything.
