Re: Fossils B/C
Apparently the B test had amazing specimens, but the C test...shiver. Terrible specimens.

Actually, I though the fossil specimens were pretty good...paleonaps wrote:Apparently the B test had amazing specimens, but the C test...shiver. Terrible specimens.

Tell me about it.

Re: Fossils B/C
All the competitions that i have competed in for fossils had amazing fossil specimens
i prefer specimens because then you can easily analyze them, and it makes it easier for you to identify the specimen.

Yeah and pictures aren't always accurate.

It can be hard to tell size from a picture too, and size is often an important factor.Cheesy Pie wrote:Yeah and pictures aren't always accurate.

They generally don't have a size key, and coloration can be off.

Oh, I HATE black and white and low rez pics. It's so hard to distinguish shapes.Cheesy Pie wrote:They generally don't have a size key, and coloration can be off.

Re: Fossils B/C
Yeah, we had one test that all the stations were black and white and you couldn't distinguish anything. The supervisors told us that if we needed a better look at a specimen, we could look at the original test that the copies were made from, but when there is a limited amount of time at each station, that wasn't practical. Whenever possible, samples are always preferable.mingtian wrote:Oh, I HATE black and white and low rez pics. How does everybody deal with pictures without size key or that are blurry? We just make a guess, but are there any good hints?

Seeing as Fossils is no longer an event...butter side up wrote:How does everybody deal with pictures without size key or that are blurry? We just make a guess, but are there any good hints?
Anyway, I've taken a (practice) test in black-and-white. You muddle through. The interesting thing is that neither my partner and I have (had) any sense of size. I remember at state I was really surprised that Worthenia was so small.
But really, guys... Fossils is going. Is it really worth it to mull over it this much? I love it, but shouldn't we be prepping for Rocks?
