Hey, just wondering, what are the formats of you guys' tests and what things show up a lot?
I've only done this event at one tournament so far and it had a lot of questions like "what is the scale in this picture" and "what is the area of the swath" and questions on satellite bands.
That sounds about right for me for the past 2 years. And also "what's happening in this picture?"

I've gotten questions like IDing structures in the image, what type of image (false color, different TM bands), and comparing images taken at different times (and what happened in the image taken later)

I've also seen questions on weather phenomena (not too much, just a question or two on hurricanes). I've also seen questions on specific satellites, like LandSat (I don't really know the details on the questions though, that was my partner's domain, so he did all those questions).

And you know, it's funny that I have no idea what people are talking about in this thread, and I still managed 3rd at Nats. That really was a bad test that year if my partner and I could get 3rd with no idea what we were doing (he did know his stuff better than I knew mine, though).

Besides Nebraska's Remote tests, has anyone had NDVI show up on a test? I'm nervous that it will appear on the Nationals test, and I'll have no clue what it means.

NDVI = Normalized Difference Vegetation Index = (NIR-Red)/(NIR+Red)

In my opinion everyone doing remote sensing should know NDVI because almost everyone who uses remote sensing data for applications in vegetation uses NDVI or and NDVI-based product. I teach NDVI in my Introduction to GIS course because it is so prevalent in the scientific literature.

FYI I am posting the Nebraska State Test for this year.

Haven't seen that on a test. But, like greywolfst1 said, you might want to know it (or put some info about it on your reference sheet).

I had NDVI at regionals. (Then again, it was copied from the NE regional >.>) I hope to upload some NDVI / EVI stuff to the wiki next time I get the chance, though. You'll probably see it at *some* point in this event.

I have seen NVDI on a couple of questions. Its also useful to know if you need to explain something about using remote sensing to analyze vegetation for a short answer or essay type question.

Does anybody think that we will have to be able to calculate the energy of a wave from its wavelength?
The thought just occurred to me, and even though I've never seen it on a test before, it does seem related to the concepts of Remote Sensing.
