Re: Ecology B/C
Do you realize that Water Quality, save the identification of macroinvertebrates, the building of a salinometer and water remediation, is basically the ecology of estuaries? If not, then you are in the wrong event._anatomy_ wrote:i am probably going to do water quality next year

Re: Ecology B/C
I suppose that you could also see macroinvertebrates in an ecology test too, since there is some identification of animals or organisms in their stated biome/ecosystem...quizbowl wrote:Water Quality, save the identification of macroinvertebrates, is basically the ecology of estuaries.

Re: Ecology B/C
I understand that, but water quality relates to just water, while ecology covers a wider range. Still, I see how its related. Ya, quizbowl u r rite, water quality is related to ecology but only in certain topics.quizbowl wrote:Do you realize that Water Quality, save the identification of macroinvertebrates, the building of a salinometer and water remediation, is basically the ecology of estuaries? Re: Ecology B/C
It's just like Rocks and Minerals replacing Fossils. They're both Earth Science ID events, but they're not that similar. There's some overlap (you have to know a little bit about rocks for Fossils), but fossils focuses on organisms while R&M focuses on rocks and minerals._anatomy_ wrote:I understand that, but water quality relates to just water, while ecology covers a wider range. Water Quality is in a similar situation. It's not quite Ecology; it focuses more on water testing and macroinvertebrates and pollution. But things still overlap, like some basic ecological principles. Events get replaced by events that are different. If they were the same, it wouldn't be much of a replacement.

Re: Ecology B/C
According to chalker, Ecology is not actually being replaced! (yayy! )
(quote from the 2011-2012 Events thread)
(quote from the 2011-2012 Events thread)
I'm not sure whether we'll still need the salinometer, etc. But it appears that discussing water quality in this thread is just as relevant as discussing the tundra and taiga used to be!chalker wrote:And yet again the Ecology / Water Quality confusion is perpetuated. As I clearly indicated just a little further back in this thread, Water Quality is the TOPIC for the Ecology event.smartkid222 wrote: Ecology (-> Water Quality)
Does this seem correct?
