Re: Designs
right now with our design, the top portion and the base are two separate pieces. whenever we test, the tower always breaks at that connection. we're trying to figure out a way of making it just a single piece but we don't know how to go about that. any suggestions?

Re: Designs
The thing about C division is, the angle between the base leg and chiney column is more acute (not necessarily acute, but more so) than that of the B division bridge. As a result it's hard to bend a 50+ (actually probabaly around 53) centimeter piece of balsa with such a sudden bend, and maintain a reliable level of strength along the column.
That's my 2 cents on the topic, but who knows maybe someone's actually been able to make it one piece. Wait for others to reply.

Re: Designs
How does that make sense...by making a smaller base, your cutting down on weight, why make the base larger than it needs to be?

Re: Designs
I think it would be better to use the 15 X 15 cm base or a 20 X 5 cm ± depending on how well you think you would be able to balance it so it does not tip over

Re: Designs
We did build a 20 cm x 8 cm Division C tower, weighing 6.9 grams, that held the entire load. The team is working on reducing the weight further.TYG wrote:Has anyone here made a tower with a 20x5cm base that did relatively well?

Re: Designs
I got 1st at regionals with a tower with a weight of 12.5g that held everything and was a long edge tower. I found that it was much easier to stabilize two faces made of curved wood rather than two sets of two faces
