Effervescence Task
Discussion for the Effervescence task.
-The path of the Administrator is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men.
-Nothing\'s gonna get deleted. We\'re gonna be like three little Fonzies here. And what\'s Fonzie like? Come on, what\'s Fonzie like?
-Cool?
-Correctamundo. And that\'s what we\'re gonna be. We\'re gonna be cool. Now, I\'m gonna count to three, and when I count three, you let go of your mouse, and back away from the keyboard. But when you do it, you do it cool. Ready? One... two... three.

Re: Effervescence Task
Baking soda and vinegar has been done to death. I wish they would have allowed Mentos and Coke, just for some variety. I suspect it wouldn't travel as well, though.

Re: Effervescence Task
Is there any other reaction you could use? I want to do something cooler than vinigar and baking soda......lol
Maybe something that reacts with water? Of course they would all probly be considered hazardous...

Re: Effervescence Task
Alka-seltzer works with water, but it is even less cool than baking soda and vinegar

Re: Effervescence Task
The rules only say that the only liquids you can have are water and vinegar. They say nothing about dumping two solids into the water that then dissolve and react. Technically, any aqueous chemical reaction is legal, as long as it's safe.
Also, vinegar is an acid and can be mixed with more than just baking soda.

Re: Effervescence Task
Calcium Carbonate (Tums antacids) + Acetic Acid (vinegar) => http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hbbA-Qz9jE
Will react faster if the calcium carbonate is ground before adding to the vinegar.

Re: Effervescence Task
Question: If the gas from the reaction fills the balloon, is that considered a parallel task?

Re: Effervescence Task
Most likely no, because the chain of events is definitely linear. On a flowchart diagramming the tasks, the reaction task and the balloon inflation task would not both branch off from the same previous task. The previous task would directly cause the reaction, and then the reaction would directly inflate the balloon.courage7856 wrote:Question: If the gas from the reaction fills the balloon, is that considered a parallel task?

Re: Effervescence Task
This has been added to the national site as a clarification. And the answer is no, it is allowed. You were correct! But it's always good to know for sure.lonestar wrote:Most likely no, because the chain of events is definitely linear.
