Re: Designs and Kits
I think I understand, I just haven't made any of my own, so I wasn't sure if it would work if I missed some vital component.

Re: Designs and Kits
Like most things, build technique and quality control the resulting friction on such a prop hanger. You can make it low friction. Oh, and you still use a low friction bearing between the rotor and the hanger.
One technique thing I found in making those hangers is to wind it around a prop wire that is HIGHLY tensioned in some sort of frame to keep it straight. For light indoor models where the wire sized are 0.025 or smaller I use a coping saw frame to hold the prop wire straight. Made it TONS easier to make one aligned from the get go.
Illusionist, what thickness wire is that hanger? Looks a little overkill, but can't tell for sure from the picture. Might be some weight save available there.
And what is that brass looking thing on your motor stick? Balast or something to do with the hanger?

Re: Designs and Kits
I am not sure as to the size of the hangar, but I'm positive I could go lighter. Just haven't tried it yet (I probably should).
The brass is for ballast. The rotor hangar is at the bottom of my helicopter, so that's why the ballast is near the hangar.

Just so all of you know the "river city rocket" helicopter kit, fails to comply with the 2011 helicopter rules.

Re: Designs and Kits
hmm... the kit my partner bought was undersized (I think), but really, building yourself works better.

Re: Designs and Kits
You can always add weight, but the whole bearing system on the river city rocket is illegal.kjhsscioly wrote:hmm... the kit my partner bought was undersized (I think), but really, building yourself works better.

Re: Designs and Kits
How are the bearings illegal on the River City Rocket? I have not personally seen the kit before, so I have no idea what is included.

Re: Designs and Kits
I just looked at the pdf in the image gallery and it showed aluminum tubing for the bearing. I didn't know that was illegal....

Re: Designs and Kits
Please be specific, who determined this, and based on what criteria in the rules. I looked at the picture and THINK I know, but could be wrong. If its what I think it is, its not theFrogger4907 wrote:Just so all of you know the "river city rocket" helicopter kit, fails to comply with the 2011 helicopter rules.
but one easily changed (as you build, a pain after the fact) piece.Frogger4907 wrote:<SNIP> the whole bearing system on the river city rocket is illegal.
Details, please!
