I bought one off amazon. It was this one I believe. Less than $20, up to 1000g, .1g accuracy. That brand also has a scale with .01g accuracy but it only goes up to 100g so I got the one that I could use for other, heavier (non-aircraft) situations becuse I was in need of a digital scale anyway.lllazar wrote:Can anyone suggest a good gram scale? And also, this is just for lulz, but what do you think of my school not willing to spend the club money (raised through bake sales, they give us 0) on a gram scale, or letting us borrow one of the schools, because they don't want us to sell drugs? Haha, and such im just buying my own...

Re: Building materials (excluding covering)
Music wire is hard, cold drawn wire, correct size is 0.020 to 0.025 inch. Paper clips aren't as hard, to be strong enough it needs to be thicker and heavier. It also won't fit int most common, appropriate rotor hangers for this event.
Most hobby shops carry a selection of music wire, .015 is about the smallest. And yes, you can get appropriate wire from a music store, solid steel guitar wire in appropriate diameter will work. You may need to straighten it though, and its a little more expensive.
Music wire came from wire used to string pianos. They carry a LOT of tension, so have to be good, consistent quality. They've also be come very cheap and affordable.

Re: Building materials (excluding covering)
I got a Triton T2 scale at American Science and Surplus- it was only about $30- It works great and measures accuratly to .1gand upo to 300g. At an invitational they were only using a scale accurate to 1g- so this was a great way to know I was at the right mass.

How can a scale be accurate to one gram? did it round down or up?

Re: Building materials (excluding covering)
Well im assuming if the actual mass were <x.5 then it rounds down and if >x.5 then it rounds up. Where x is just an integer. But that's really bad especially considering how specific the scale should be for something like this event.

Re: Building materials (excluding covering)
Yeah, accuracy to the nearest gram is nowhere near enough. I would recommend a 0.01g scale, as they are not too much more expensive than 0.1g ones and will help you minimize weight.
I win.

Re: Building materials (excluding covering)
I am pretty sure i bought my scale for 12 dollars online, with a 1/100th accuracy and a 100 gram limit. Really, that should bee all you need for this kind of event.
