Two: the people doing at least one focus event don't get the help immediately. The coaches are our regular coaches.

More like 30, but we divide Varsity and JV at the beginning then get together. But with the focus events, the number of students for the teachers to really teach is about 12 (4 per event - 2 V, 2 JV)

Ok, so everybody who doesn't have any of the focus events just goes of and does their own thing, while the people whose events are the focus events get some coaching in that event?

well, you can't babysit the entire team all the time. They have to study and build at home as well. That is part of the responsibility you take up when you join scioly, and If you can't do that, you get booted from the team. So, yes, we often have to let people "do their own thing" because some events can't be taught. Instead, we check notes and monitor progress every so often.

Usually there is at least one serious person per group who keeps the other on task.

that may or may not work for every event, especially since we assign events based on skill and preference.

We pick our events based on placement.
