All I can say is that I look forward to seeing the div B State tournament this year.

I would not say the placings are "biased" towards big teams, because every team is limited to the 15 team members. All the teams have about the same amount of team members and scheduling constraints. If you have less team members, it becomes harder to schedule and cover all the events so you definitely have a disadvantage, but it's not bias. In competition it is expected that all the teams enter every event and have a large enough team to do so. If you want a team to be successful, try to fill it up as much as you can. That being said, in 2010 my team made it to Michigan's state tournament with only 10 team members, and we were able to compete in every event at 3 invitationals, regionals, and state.

This does not effect being able to do more events, but some schools have enough kids to fill up the team and some schools have 100 kids all competing for those 15 spots. Those schools have an advantage because of a bigger crowd to find good competitors, but just because they have a good team does not mean the competition is biased toward them. They still have only their 15 best to enter the 23 events.

but for state and such, don't trial events and JV events count for your overall score?
so wouldn't that put a smaller team at a disadvantage because they don't have enough people to compete in JV and do trial events?

EDIT: what about poorer schools that don't spend much money on sci oly? because all building events require some funds and if trial and jv events are building, then some poorer teams might not have enough funds to build more stuff...

...In Michigan they don't. Sometimes there are trial events, but only the 23 National events count towards your team score. (well this year 22 since they demoted Sumobots to a trial event in Michigan)
