Re: Elevated Bridge B/C
Wow. The first place winners really put some space between themselves and the competition - Congrats again to Troy and Arendell Parrott. Both are extraordinarily impressive scores. But - 2734 is absolutely disgusting. Sheesh!
The distribution for C scores is very interesting. Troy was a solid first, and I'm happy that it was so close between us and second (and only slightly disappointed that we came out on the losing end of that close margin. I know Centerville was really disappointed with the performance of their bridge, but 1837 is still an extremely impressive score. But, with no offense meant to Grand Haven or Raleigh Charter... I confess myself very surprised that those scores made it into the medal range. 5-10 were extremely close, but I would have guessed that it'd take at least a 1500 to make it into the medals - The difference between fourth and fifth was gigantic! Congrats though to those teams - even with that gap, scores in the 1300s are still very very solid. The gaps for B division were much more reasonable - well defined, but no huge gaps, it seems.
I'm very very pleased with our bronze. The bridge testing could not have gone more perfectly for us, and the sensation of pure elation when that made it to full load and snapped right after was one of the best feelings I've ever had. rjm, I don't know if you saw us, but you were right on the station next to us. I saw you helping the girl from Witchita Collegiate - that was extremely kind; I felt so bad that she didn't have a partner there with her! Thanks so much for everything - Bridge was fantastically run, as always, with efficiency and no problems at all. It was also so cool that you guys were giving away sand!
Congrats to everyone!

I noticed this too. Actually though, I thought the hoppers they had were great. They ran through very quickly, which was great, and I definitely think that helped our score!lllazar wrote:Wow, a lot of great bridges this year...i have to say though, i saw many a bridge builder who let the sand in WAY too slowly, causing they're bridge to break earlier than it should have.
Congrats to everyone!

A video clip of the 5th place bridge (Division B) showing the testing at the tournament is on YouTube at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVLtLpAkWks. Also, two close-up pictures of the bridge are now in the image gallery.

SLM, are you the coach/mentor to the person that wrote this? I thought I've seen that bridge before If so, congratulations on their great accomplishment, and thanks for the pictures!

Thanks! 6.3 points behind second. Oh well - still very happy. I'm now an olympiad alum, but I was one of the students (my partner - and sister - is dragonfly on these forums) on the Harriton bridge team.lllazar wrote:Sigh, those C div gaps were insane...And ya, i was watching the girl from Wichita, it was nice of the person u refer to as rjm for helping her...btw, i was just wondering, are u a coach/bridge mentor/student? Re: Elevated Bridge B/C
Yes, I mentored a couple of teams in Division B this year. The diary was compiled by one of the teams, the above-mentioned bridge was built by the other team.blue cobra wrote:SLM, are you the coach/mentor to the person that wrote this?
