Just a thought.

Hi, I'm new to this event, so I have a question: are lego NXT kits allowed in this event? :)

Alright, thanks. I thought so since anyone with a Mindstorms set would have a huge advantage.

I was thinking that since there's no height restriction, maybe you could put it on "stilts", where the chassis of the buggy passes over the bucket while the wheels pass on either side of it. It would eliminate the turning issue, but you'd have to have it aligned exactly right (because the max width of the buggy is 30 cm, while the bucket is 25-27 cm in diameter), otherwise it would just run into the bucket.

NXTs, RCXs, and any other microcontrollers are not allowed. This is because the electronics that they have inside them exceed those listed in 2.d. of the rules. Anything with a transistor (or anything else not listed) is not allowed. Logic circuits, programmable ICs, and most other complex electronics are not legal because of this.

The NXT motors are servos and so contain electronics that are not allowed.
The RCX motors are just plain gearmotors and so should be legal, if you happen to have any around.

That sounded like a great idea! Until I realized that some buckets will probably have sides that tilt outward a little, making the whole thing wider than the bottom. :(
