You're IL at CLC Regionals, aren't you? I don't know if I ever got it right since it was a tiebreaker, but I usually said that the pieces of rock could be used for dating fossils. Also, I mentioned that since the plate wasn't subducted completely and layered underneath, the layer on the bottom could be younger than the layers above.

Rock layers are good for dating, but in Illinois, glaciers and plate shifts have made it harder

I meant College of Lake County, not Crystal Lake Central. But the last two years, this question has only been used as a tiebreaker, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. That test isn't too hard, but you mostly need to know time periods/basic ID.

hi! me and my partner are doing the middle school fossils event and honestly we really don't know much... We were planning on doing the crimebusters but it turns out that our state wasn't offering it

I was wondering if you had any tips or links that could help us... our tournament is in a month and we aren't doing too good lol

Any advice is greatly appreciated

nd are there any ways you learned about fossils that was fun? to make it less stressful and boring?

Fossils808 i forgot to mention in my PM, to make it more fun, you have to make yourself think its fun at first, at least i did...honestly i thought this would be the most boring topic ever, but within a few days of studying, i began to love it.

If you have a partner, even better, you can quiz yourselves, it's honestly a very fun event.

For jawless fish, you need information on agnathans, ostracoderms, and placoderms
dunkleosteus, bothriolepis, etc.
for chrondrichthyans just remember that they have cartiligenous skeleon
you might want to remember the shark teeth or keep a page of it in your binder
for osteichthyans its bony fish and also is split in to actinopterygii and sarcopterygii
sarcopterygii is lobe-fin so remember like tiktaalik, early amphibian, etc
then actinopterygians are like modern fish
teleosts are 99% of modern fish today and have an advanced jawbone allowing them to suck up their food rather than biting harder

i completely agree
also, make a very good binder with everything you need. there is no size limit so if you need a 4-inch binder to hold everything, go ahead! just make sure that you can access your materials quickly because this is usually at stations with 2 or 3 minute time limits.
