smith123 wrote:Wooden roller coaters tend to be much more bumpy, because of the inherent flexibility of wood, and the need to use jointed construction rather than continuous welded structure. Wood has far more elastic yield in response to pressure than steel does. The weight of the cars can cause the wood to flex by 1/2 inch or more. Bumps are any areas where the track deviates from the ideal, smooth planned trajectory of the ride. Those inconsistencies are felt as rapid jarring motions..

True, but I kinda like the bumpiness on woodies...it makes it more authentic!

I live an hour away from Cedar Point and I have to WDW 8 times for a total of 56 days. Yet I am weird because I like the design of roller coasters and yet I don't like to ride them. The rest of my family does. I feel different. :?

Has anybody seen Final Destination 3? Puts a little perspective on it. Reminds me, it's up at 10 o clock today on FX. For those of you who haven't seen it, almost everybody dies riding a rollercoaster. Happy dreams 8-)

Why is Saw: The Ride the first coaster to pop into my head?

And for anyone who's a coaster fan, ride X2 @ Six Flags Magic Mountain. It's crazy! Although I don't consider myself type X...

Questions on the Event

Post by 19puppylover »

I have a couple of questions on the rules for the Event Roller Coasters. It's a trial event for our state competition.
1. Are the dimensions (1 m by 0.6 m by 1 m) for a rectangular pyramid, or a rectangular prism?
2. Is the Vertical Jump Height some sort of hill, platform drop, or a platform rise?
3. How do we measure the Vertical Jump Height?
4. Can you do the 2nd Vertical Jump of 5 cm, without doing the 1st Vertical Jump?

Any answers to these questions would be really really helpful! I have to build this roller coaster in 1 and a half weeks!!! :? :( :?

Sorry, but this is the wrong place to post. This forum is about rollercoasters at theme parks, not the trial (and possibly real) event. Sorry.
TSA's pretty cool... i guess
