What specimens/ questions have you all been coming across at your competitions?
At state, there was a question about the Law of Superposition.

State mineral was on one of the invite tests, too, but does IL even have a state rock? I did some searching and found nothing. We have a state everything-else, though.

Yeah, I had a station on that at WSU. Luckily, we learned about that stuff in Earth Science this year, so I knew all about it :)

I love these types of study events when it comes to preparing for them, but what I hate about this is that often times, I do practice tests using real samples my teacher has gathered... and on the day of the competition, the stations have more pictures than real samples. This makes it a bit hard to identify the specimens right. This also happened to me in Fossils in the last 2 years.

Who knows good links for the way minerals and crystal form?? And can anyone point me to a reliable, detailed glossary of terms?? Much obliged.

Totally need to get a head start for next year. This year was...bleh. The list shouldn't change much, right?
Rocks and minerals and glaciers and synclines and endangered animals, oh my!

I'd try to get the technical stuff learned first, it seems to take the longest to learn and you can save a lot of binder-searching time at competition by knowing it.

Why is there an asterisk next to silver and diamond and gold in the list?
