Illinois 2013

Post by Skink »

!! IMPORTANT !!
We will have a scioly.org meet-up at the State competition, but we will not begin planning this until after the Regional competitions are over (those dates are later in this post).
The Forestry Illinois reduced tree list can be found here and will be used for invitational and Regional tournaments. Do NOT study from the National list until the State competition.
Event conflicts for competitions in Illinois can be found in the blocks below. Note that some Regional competitions already have their tentative schedules uploaded.

Frequently Asked Questions *some answers subject to change
Q: How did the [insert school here] team do last year?
A: At what tournament? Regional results are currently unavailable online, so ask about it in case someone was there. For State tournament results, download this file.

Q: Where are the rules clarifications posted?
A: Nationally, they are found here and here. For Illinois-specific clarifications, this answer will be updated at that time, and you will be notified by a post in this topic.

Q: Where can I find raw scores?
A: Illinois Science Olympiad policy prohibits raw scores to be posted online; however, you can occasionally find public rankings on Avogadro.

Q: How do Illinois teams do nationally?
A: Illinois teams do very well. In the 2012 season, the National qualifiers performed as follows:
B Divison: Marie Murphy (2nd Overall), Daniel Wright (6th Overall)
C Division: New Trier Winnetka (5th Overall), Adlai E. Stevenson (17th Overall)

Q: Help! I have a question that isn't answered here.
A: Post in this topic asking your question. Either someone here will help you, or we will try to point you in the right direction for whom can.

Hi, NotFromThere! As you will probably see, this forum tends to be relatively active throughout the year, since all of us are just as excited for this year as you are :)

Anyways, I'll be at the Hinsdale Central invite (not CLC this year!) and COD regionals.

Im trying to lean my coach to hinsdale too.

Well probably be at CLC like usual but trying to get my coach to sign up for a known easier one... Like COD :P CLC was way too stressful last season

Welcome! We all go on long rants on the IL page (refer to 2012 page) its a party.

I posted the first draft of the first post. Hopefully, someone somewhere along the line finds something there helpful :P . It's a WIP. I need some kind of eye candy banner or something...and maybe some more FAQs.
Welcome, NotFromHere! I know I'm ready for March...the next several months are the boring parts of the season, honestly.

She doesn't--her team may not even be registered yet, after all. It's more likely that's the Regional her high school always goes to so she has no reason to think otherwise.

Let's clear this up...I don't know what Chicago folks you hang out with, but that is most assuredly NOT characteristic of midwestern dialects. In fact, it's not even midwestern country hick talk. That's southerners.
But, if you wanna know what Chicagoans are actually known to say, we have an oddity where we tend to end sentences irregularly with prepositions. We don't even notice unless we consciously think about it...the best example I have offhand is "Where are you going to?" I guess people in other regions wouldn't phrase it like that.

Very cool! This is a ways away, but the State tournament always needs volunteers, so don't get burnt out before then! Anyways, have you considered involvement of some kind on a team this season?

You can't--it's not visible. I hope that's temporary...my post count went down by almost 200. I'm not saying it matters, but there was good stuff posted there!

Actually, I've already had the first coaches/captains meeting of the year, and was told they registered our team on the first day possible, and have listed COD as our first choice and CLC as the second. We've always been put in COD since Benedictine stopped being a tournament, so I can't see any reason why they wouldn't again.

Yeah, I noticed that, and also that my post count was similarly reduced... there went 175 or so of my posts :P I don't see any reason why they wouldn't put it back up...

Like I said, I think it's just not visible. They've been messing with the permissions lately with the board turnover. Look at some of the topics--they were made some time ago; we just couldn't see the forums they were in.
^well...you guys are on top of things!
