Uncle Fester is Back

Post by Uncle Fester »

Well, it's been a while; I've been quite a ways out of the loop.

I had cut back my presence here for six years while assistant coaching a team in Michigan. I pretty much tracked a dozen students from 7th to 12th grade; Graduating survivors all got 80% or better Science-related scholarships. Don't know if I did the right thing or if I just picked the right students to track.

I spent the next year (2012) helping with a gigantic international Scouting camporee that actually filled two years, not one. A rather bad job filled in the remaining hours.

I hadn't been back from the camporee a whole two weeks when I had a serious episode of atrial fibrillation; upper half pf my heart pumped nothing at 160 b/m while the lower pumped at 40. Kind of bad. Hospitalized for three days, and I'm now a 'repeat offender'.. After a year, things are under better control now, but I'm facing a pacemaker implanting. In the meantime, I had a sudden, massive cataract growth in both eyes and I now face additional surgery for that.

After twenty years, I started training my replacement, and I actually ran no devices in the '13 season-- my future replacement did. Now, I'm a co-sup for as long as it takes to make sure he's firmly planted on the ground. We're working to transfer my empire to his with no sudden changes or feelings of treachery.

Advice: DO yourselves a favor and stop arguing with PencilSpinner and the other old heads, especially on the Mission thread. They know what they're talking about.

Thank you for doing that. This will definitely help the next generation of kids and teens who aspire to be scientists. Even though you had faced many hindrances, you still kept going. I commend you for that. You will inaudibly become role models for many young adults who don't have a path in life.

Well, lucky me! cataract-filled lens gets removed Dec 19, right eye follows Jan 2. Replacement parts already ordered and are waiting to be installed. Full front-end alignment.

In between eye operations, I get a heart monitor for a few days. Folks at work are already betting that I'll probably take it apart to see how it works.

Cataract #2 removed a week ago. Because I barfed the whole way (9 miles) back home after the first one, they used much less of a different anesthesia, so I saw and remembered a lot more of the procedure.

Right eye cataract was highly crystalline, and I got to see it while it was being removed. It was like being inside of Superman's Crystal Cavern. All kinds of rainbow lights and facets and sparkles from the operating lights above. Unfortunately, the crystals were quite sharp and they tore part of my eye while being removed. SO, this eye is healing a lot more slowly.

Under-skin bleeding leads to bruising blackm blue and even green, but with the white of the eye, it's markedly different. Right now, my right eye is ORANGE. Some kid in the frocery store asked me about it today. "Mister, how come your eye is orange?"

My rely? "Shh, it's a secret-- nobody is supposed to know that I'm a vampire." And in the blink of an eye, he was GONE!
