Re: Pre-Competition Stress Moments
I was at the Grayslake invite and during the Ento test there were 2-minute stations and we finished most quite early (thankfully) and I spent half the time looking at the toads and lizards and butterflies and flutterbys in the terrariums around the room.
I find that I am almost the most relaxed person on my team - some people think I become too chill during a test.

Re: Pre-Competition Stress Moments
One time before Metric Mastery, my partner and I were fighting like children over a calculator with our B team. We probably looked really immature and mildly stupid. We did not look that way when we won first in that event. And our B team also placed, so it proves that stress before an event isn't anything to stress about later.

Re: Pre-Competition Stress Moments
I'm currently using size 4, although maybe I should try size 2Voltage wrote:It's actually not as bad as you'd think. If you set something to size 2 you may at first be discouraged, because on a computer you are unable to read it. However, once you print it out you'll find it readable, if you bring you're eye up close to it. I personally prefer size 4, though.

Re: Pre-Competition Stress Moments
I was more stressed before Blue and Gold (my school district's makeshift competition) than regionals, states, or nationals.
My most stressful moment at a competition would have to be watching my team's rotor fall at nationals. It was very close to hitting the stairs, and I couldn't see it going past the stairs from where I was standing.

Re: Pre-Competition Stress Moments
This is more of a bad thing that happened right before states. We were testing out our robot while our sister team WhitePines was and for what ever reason their controler connected up to our robot and drove it off a table, and so we ended up working on it untill 11pm

Re: Pre-Competition Stress Moments
Ogosh, I threw up the night before Nationals (Maybe from stress, maybe food poisoning, I shall never know).......Astroknight wrote:Before the Wright state invitational last gear, I was overly nervous about the tournament. It was my first competition, and my team didn't care about anyone meddling. On the way up, I felt sick. I didn't know why, but I was. We stopped at a Bob a Jones, and there, suddenly, I had to go to the bathroom and throw up. The next day, ironically, I got 3rd in my fist event ever, Invasive
species. We only placed in one other event.

Re: Pre-Competition Stress Moments
Last year I ended up doing 3 building events because hardly anyone else had the drive to do well in SO on my team. Those events were Boomilever, Maglev, and Scrambler, and I did not have a partner for the latter two. The night before regionals, my Maglev train broke down, so I was up until about 11 working on it. But I still came in 2nd because all but ~4 teams remembered to build a cage around the propeller, and the written test was copied from the test exchange here.

Yup, supervisors are noobs (that's what I get out of this paragraph )samlan16 wrote:Last year I ended up doing 3 building events because hardly anyone else had the drive to do well in SO on my team.
