Oops, I need to make sure I know that.

What type of study is used when comparing two different locations?
2014-15 Season
(Hooch,Dodgen, Regionals, State, Nats)
Bio-Process Lab(3rd,5th,-,3rd,14th ;) )
Disease Detectives (1st,5th,1st,1st,10th 8-) )
Crave The Wave (2nd,-,-,-,-)
Experimental Design (-,1st, 4th,-,-)
Picture This (4th,6th, 1st, 4th,48th  )
Simple Machines (1st,n/a, 1st, n/a)

You group the participants into 2 groups: exposed and non-exposed. Next, you look back to previous records to figure out who has the disease and who doesn't.

What is the name of this study?

Which measures of association do you use in this study?

What are three advantages associated with retrospective studies?

answer
1. Cohort 2. Attack Rate, Relative Risk 3. Most Accurate Observational Study, Good Measure of Exposure, Allow you to calculate incidence

Correct Answers
Retrospective Cohort, Odds Ratio and Relative Risk, Works with rare diseases, Allows you to calculate incidence, smaller scale, quicker, less expensive (pick 3)

So, umm.. you found something to study. Your turn!

Actually #2 can't be odds ratio because that's used in Case-control and I basically got everything else right.

What is the difference between prospective and retrospective study?

Um, Odds Ratio also is used in Retrospective Cohort since Ret. Cohort is very similar to Case Control and is small scale, and you got most of #3 wrong and some of #1 wrong.
ANS
Prospective: Looks for outcomes in the future
Retrospective: Comparing past outcomes to figure out a common exposure
