At my regional some team got over Ward's time (not sure by how much, but I heard it was closer to 4 minutes) with a chinook

Was it the raw time score? Or with bonuses added?

How much time do you think is necessary to place well at regionals. Im competing in NC if that makes a difference.

Depends on who else is there. A Chinook over 1 minute is pretty much a guaranteed medal, but you could probably medal with a good coaxial at most regionals.

In NM, the competition in Heli was limited. We turned in 2:23, in a racquetball court. Unfortunately, the HVAC in that court was on and made for very strong drift to one corner, and once the heli hit the corner it went into a death slide to the ground. Second place was 37 seconds.

I would expect other regions to be more competitive.

I had my C team fly my A team's coaxial from last year (20 cm rotor width) and they placed 10th at Regionals with a flight time of a little over 40 seconds. At the Regional level, a one minute coaxial should get you a medal.

NY Lake Niagara regional first place raw time 1 min 20 seconds, however there was the black surface bonus, chinook bonus, and also the 3 minute setup bonus I believe. Second place raw time 1 min 5 seconds, with black surface bonus, chinook bonus, and 3 minute setup bonus.

My region isn't too competitive, however.

I would suggest that anyone posting times also mentions ceiling height. Thanks very much for the info.
