Yeah only 1 team from IN goes to nats. It's unfortunate, and unless participation within the state rises it will stay that way.
2018: Battery Buggy, Road Scholar, Roller Coaster
2019: Chem Lab, Code, Disease, Fossils, Geo Maps, Sounds
2020 and 2021: Astro, Chem Lab, Code, Fossils, Geo Maps, Sounds

The way that nationals bids work (as far as my understanding goes) is that there are 60 bids total. Each state is entitled to a bid IF it has registered Science Olympiad teams (this is the key part). The remaining after that are given to the states with the highest number of teams actively registered in their state. For example, if only 47 states have active Science Olympiad organizations and registered teams, then there are 13 extra bids that are redistributed to the top 13 highest states by team registration. That means that if all 50 states have active organizations and registered teams, then there are only 10 extra bids that get redistributed to the top 10 highest states by team registration.

If I had to make a guess, I don't think participation in IN hasn't really dropped, rather, it seems to have stagnated. At the same time, other states have started Science Olympiad organizations and have registered teams (COUGH COUGH WV AND VT), which has resulted in the decrease of available second bids to states with higher participation, and thus, although IN's participation is still quite high compared to other states, it has fallen out of the top...however many remaining bids are left by now, which is why we no longer have two bids.

I think once I saw an interesting point on the forums about possibly expanding the amount of teams that can compete at the national tournament to 64 or 66 per division or something like that. If that were to happen, IN's participation is certainly high enough compared to other states to get back into the top number of remaining bids left. But yeah, stagnation in IN participation coupled with introduction of new states' organizations is why we no longer have two bids.

I hope Indiana can start sending two teams to state again. It's a bit monotonous to see TJ represent Indiana every year for B.

Indiana participation dropped 4 teams this year so while I don’t think the drop is significant it’s not encouraging compared to growth in other states.

I'm not sure that they get posted online for a while, or at least that's what I think I remember. But I just checked the website and they're not there.
