If you look closely at the picture, you'll notice that the left stack of papers is actually sitting on the spine. The front black cover is much further down the lab bench. When I took that picture I estimated that the overall thickness was about 9", or the width of a typically sheet of paper.

My rocks binder is about 1.5 inches i think??
Same *maybe.* (not sure if 1 or 1.5) Mine was stuffed to capacity and we could probably have gotten rid of some general information pages. we also had pictures of some pages from field guides, and some of the rocks were 2 to a page (like the limestone types.)
Next year I'm doing herpetology, and I don't have too many pages right now (read: 2) but I'm projecting a 2.5 inch binder, maybe more. Bio ID events seem to have much more information than geo ID.
Two years ago I knew stuff about rocks, minerals, experiments, and ecosystems, yay!
Last year I knew stuff about amphibians, reptiles, water, and more experiments, yay again!
Now I'm learning stuff about oceanography, fossils, and writing/following instructions, yay for the third time!
