In 2017 the lowest passing yards accumilated by a team was 2811 yards and the highest was 4431 yards. Assuming the average of the two accuratly represents all 30 teams (which it appears to do so) the final passing yards is about 1.1e5 yards or 5 fermi

Question: Niagra falls flows into lake Erie. If lake Erie was empty and Niagra falls continued to flow normally, how many years would it take for Niagra falls to replenish lake Erie?

Hey guys, I know that there is some tricky math on Fermi that I have been learning how to do so try doing this one without a calculator:

May seem hard but there are some tricks you can use to get a quick answer :)

is about 1.5E163 so 163

Niagara falls flows at 2E6 Liters/sec. Times 3e7 is 6e13 liters/yr. Volume Erie = 5E2 km, 5E14 liters/6E13= 1 fermi

I'll assume that there's 1 mistake per every 10^5 nucleotides, and given that there are 10^10 (?) base pairs per diploid cell, that should amount to 10^5 mistakes each time a cell divides. Enzymes involved in DNA replication make approximately 1 mistake per 100,000 nucleotides. Since each diploid cell has a approximately 6 billion base pairs , that's roughly 120,000 mistakes every time a cell divides. There are 2 trillion cell divisions in the body per day. Given this information, the number of mistakes in DNA replication per day is 120,000 * 2e12 = 2.4e17 mistakes/day. The average life expectancy at birth was 72 years in 2018. 72*365 = 26280 days. At a rate of 2.4e17 mistakes/day over the course of 26280 days, ~6.31e21 mistakes in a human lifetime -> Fermi answer 22

mass of ecoli is e-12 grams so 12 make up a gram or e15 make up one kg. Mass of sun is 2e30 kg so 45 ecoli

I know that you burn about 1E2 calories by running a mile, and I also know that that the Voyager 2 is about 1E10 miles away. This gives an answer of 1E10 calories burned.

I was right about 100 calories being burned for each mile, and the Voyager 2 is currently 11 billion miles away from earth. Multiplying these two numbers gives an answer of 1.1E12.
