Different Breaking System
Hey guys,
I was wondering if there was another type of braking system out there, except for the wingnut breaking system? Thanks!

Re: Different Breaking System
you could probably just use your hands, maybe a hammer if your build is sturdier... a hammer would be in fact be optimal for PLA devices

Ummmmmm what..... Not sure if you read the person's post correctly...shrewdPanther46 wrote:you could probably just use your hands, maybe a hammer if your build is sturdier... a hammer would be in fact be optimal for PLA devices
Yes, you can use a string system, though a wingnut braking system is strongly recommended.MoMoney$$$;)0) wrote:Hey guys,

Re: Different Breaking System
Wouldn’t a string system not be legal because the breaking system must stop power to the motor.Yes, you can use a string system, though a wingnut braking system is strongly recommended.

Re: Different Breaking System
You would still need a wingnut of sorts to toggle a switch. The cool thing about a string brake is it locks all 4 wheels. I have never figured it out but might be a solution to help skidding vehicles? Curious if anybody has tried this. I wish the rules would allow you to use battery power for brake system.Kai0721 wrote:Wouldn’t a string system not be legal because the breaking system must stop power to the motor.Yes, you can use a string system, though a wingnut braking system is strongly recommended.

Re: Different Breaking System
That is true, a normal string system would not be able to stop the motor. However, you could implement some type of mechanism to be mounted on the spring and activate a switch as it passes by. Haven't tried it myself, but the theory should work.Kai0721 wrote:Wouldn’t a string system not be legal because the breaking system must stop power to the motor.Yes, you can use a string system, though a wingnut braking system is strongly recommended.

Re: Different Breaking System
You can wire the buggy so that a wire runs from the normally open side of the limit/micro switch to the negative wire coming from the motor. This causes the motor to resist rotation after the switch is flipped. This helps a considerable amount in braking if the motor free-wheels after the buggy brakes. You would do this in addition to a normal wingnut brake.
